The Kentucky Science and Engineering Foundation (KSEF) invests in research and development activity to promote innovation, new product development and commercialization, to advance new ideas and technologies that could add value to scientific and economic growth in Kentucky. To this end KSEF manages four funding programs:

  Research and Development Excellence Program (RDE) -- targets excellence in science and engineering in Kentucky, through innovation and technology development in existing and emerging areas of research, with a peer-reviewed competitive selection process.   Kentucky Commercialization Fund (COMM) -- supports efforts made by faculty in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to commercialize a technology, product, or process that they have developed but not yet licensed.   Kentucky SBIR/STTR Phase Zero and Phase Double Zero (PZ/DZ) -- funds the development and preparation of Federal Phase I and Phase II proposals for Kentucky-based Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer Research (STTR).   Kentucky SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Program -- provides grants for additional work tasks and activities supporting and complementary to Federal Phase I or Federal Phase II Awards. Click here for the searchable database of these award recipients.

These programs support ideas and technologies in five priority research areas: Biosciences, Environmental and Energy Technologies, Human Health and Development, Information Technology and Communications, and Materials Science and Advanced Manufacturing. Created under the Kentucky Innovation Act of 2000, KSEF is an initiative of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) and is managed 
in partnership with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). KSTC is a private nonprofit enterprise founded in 1987 to enhance capacity of people, firms and organizations, to use science and technology to effectively compete in the global market place.

Free two-day SBIR/STTR Intensive Writing Workshop. Registration closed; event capacity exceeded by 08-04-15.

SEPT 28 - DEADLINE: 10AM
Phase Zero and Phase Double Zero application deadline 10:00 AM to KSEF, for Federal due dates starting Dec 2015.

OCT 14 - DEADLINE: 4PM
COMM-017 Full Proposal application deadline 4:00 PM to KSEF.
