ONLINE REGISTRATION - ABSTRACT
- The length of the abstract should not exceed 250 words.
- Abstracts will be made public and published in the program; therefore make sure to NOT disclose any confidential or proprietary information that may hinder your ability to pursue intellectual property rights.
- The abstract should be written in layman's language, to be generally understood by people with varied scientific backgrounds and fields of research.
POSTERS AND COMPOSITION BOARDS
- COMPOSITION BOARDS -- Bring materials for attaching your posters or other presentation to the composition boards, preferably push-pins or Velcro (do not use tape). Participants are to place their materials (graphs, diagrams, pictures, data and text) on the composition boards set aside for this purpose. The composition board surface area for a poster is 4 feet high by 8 feet wide; however, a 2-inch margin should be left from all margins for proper fit (i.e. the actual size of your printed material cannot exceed 4 feet high by 8 feet wide MINUS the 2-inch margin in every direction).
- POSTERS AND AUTHORS -- Posters MUST be mounted on assigned composition boards (your poster number will be displayed on the top left corner of the board) by 8:00 AM the day of the conference. Posters will be grouped by the type of research focus areas and listed in the program; the time authors must be at the assigned space to discuss their projects will be indicated therein. Authors must be available to present their work and answer questions, expand on the material, and take part in discussions at the designated times for odd and even number posters.
- POSTER CONTENTS -- A short and legible introduction, summary of conclusions, impact of research in Kentucky (as appropriate) or on future funding, list of invention disclosures and patent applications submitted, list of grants and contracts received since the KSTC award, and number of graduate students and post-docs being trained should also be included in your poster. Figure legends are vital and should be short but informative. Focus the information presented on your poster to essential data which will stimulate informal discussion.
- POSTER DISPLAYS -- Type should be easily legible at a distance of 4 feet; hand lettering is to be avoided and all illustrations should be made before arrival. Charts, drawings and illustrations should be at least 11"x14" on regular weight paper, NOT mounted on cardboard. Matte finish on photographs reduces glare, providing better visibility. Availability of hand-out materials and photocopies of the poster are helpful. Do NOT write, draw, tape or paste on the composition board surface. Do bring your own supplies/push-pins (see below).
- DO NOT include any specific data, including figures and tables, in your poster that may be considered a disclosure by the U.S. Patent Office; ask your Intellectual Property (IP) Office if you are in doubt.
CHECKLIST
- SUPPLIES -- Bring materials for attaching your posters or other presentation to the composition boards, preferably push-pins or Velcro (do not use tape).
- POSTER NUMBERS -- Composition boards will be in the display hall with numbers corresponding to the poster numbers in the program book (assigned numbers will be made available shortly after the abstract submission deadline).
- EVENT TIMELINE -- Each author is responsible for the set up and removal of his/her presentation; set up should be completed by 8:00 AM, with tear down between 4:30-5:00 PM on the day of the conference. If you are unable to arrive on time to set up and tear down your poster, please make arrangements with a colleague and inform KSEF personnel. The schedule calls for the author to be at your board during the assigned schedules to discuss your work one-on-one with participants. Posters should NOT be removed before 4:30 PM. Materials left on boards after the removal deadline will be taken down and discarded. KSTC accepts no responsibility for material that may be lost or damaged.
