Kentucky SBIR/STTR Matching Funds

The KY SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Program is funded by the Cabinet for Economic Development (CED), Office of Entrepreneurship and is administered by The Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) under a contract with the CED. 

Program Goals
 Increase R&D intensity under Phase I, making Kentucky small businesses more competitive in Phase II
 Allow continued technology and business development during gaps between the Federal Phase I and Phase II awards
 Provide additional funding to advance and develop technology for early entry into the marketplace
 The matching funds are to be used for new and additional work tasks that are complementary to the existing Federal SBIR/STTR award

Eligibility & Requirements
Must be awarded SBIR/STTR Phase I or Phase II from participating federal agencies.Companies with: 
 A current Federal Phase I may be eligible to apply for matching funds up to $150,000
 A current Federal Phase II may be eligible to apply for matching funds up to $500,000 per year for up to two years. (subject to restrictions)
 At least 51% of the grant effort must be performed in Kentucky
 Must be a Kentucky-based company, with 51% or more of both property and payroll in Kentucky. Out-of-state companies may apply, but must relocate


Not Currently a Kentucky-based Company?
Companies willing to move to Kentucky may apply and receive a KY Matching Funds grants. However, the distribution of funds for out-of-state applicants is contingent upon meeting all the requirements within the guidelines, including:
 Relocating your business to the state of Kentucky within 90 days of the date on the KY SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Grant Agreement
 Maintaining the Kentucky-based status for a minimum of five years after receipt of the final disbursement of funds
 At least 51% of the Matching Funds grant amount must be spent in Kentucky.
 

Solicitation Schedule
Kentucky SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Solicitations are on a semi-annual (twice yearly) basis, currently in September and March. The available funding for each round will be determined by the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development. The selection process is competitive and does include an external panel review.

Solicitation Round 33 - March 2017: The KY SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Program is accepting applications for Solicitation Round 33 as of March 1, 2017. The deadline to submit an application is March 31, 2017 at 4:00 PM EST. All new applicants are required to register and take the eligibility test, please see option 'A' under "Helpful Links" below.

*Before initiating an application, be sure that your company is current with required reporting and deliverables for all KSTC-managed programs.
